Pianoworks was established in 1994 by Graeme and Debbi Harvey.
Graeme is a registered Piano Technician (ARPT) and looks after the technical aspects of the business – piano preparation, tuning and service work along with some retail.
Debbi hails from a teaching background and with wonderful people skills oversees the administrative side of the business and manages our retail store involving piano, instrument and print music sales.
Like many in this industry Graeme's involvement with pianos began with learning piano from a young age. In 1975 he entered the music industry and worked for a music retailer.
The piano technician associated with this business provided an insight and some basic understanding of the complex workings of pianos, which was the start of an intense interest in the technical side of pianos. After several years Graeme moved to Auckland and found a position with Piano Traders Ltd in their workshop. Here he learnt the trade and qualified as a piano technician. Since 1986 he has been a member of and closely involved in “The Piano Tuners and Technicians Guild of New Zealand”. (PTTG NZ). He has held a number of administrative roles over many years and has hosted and presented technical classes at many Guild workshop meetings.
A vast amount of technical knowledge and skill exhibited by many talented International and New Zealand piano technicians that Graeme has observed and worked with over the years has been practiced and refined over time. This knowledge, practice and experience is brought to bear in all the work he does from the simplest repair through to grand piano rebuilding work, incorporating current state-of-the-art materials, knowledge and practices.
